Snake Encounter

I always look out for snakes
Around them I take great care
It seems we live in a snake corridor
They use our land as a thoroughfare.
So, I was out hanging the washing
And saw one from the corner of my eye
I couldn’t help but step on it
And let out a startled cry.
I thought it would surely bite me
You can imagine my shock
When the snake just seemed to lay there
Because it was a sock.

Again, true. I was hanging out the washing and saw the "snake" just as I stood on it. It felt soft and squishy, but I had let out a yell of surprise. No-one saw it, but I chose to write about it.
